What Is Compote?
Compote is your all-in-one social kitchen. It allows you to instantly import or create recipes, plan your weekly meals, generate automatic shopping lists, and share your favourite dishes directly with friends and family.
Is Compote Available for iOS and Android Devices?
Yes! Download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store today and try it out!
How Do I Change My Profile Picture or Name?
Tap the Settings (gear) icon in the top right corner. Tap your current profile picture to upload a new one, or tap the pencil icon next to your name to edit it.
Adding & Managing Recipes
How Do I Add a Recipe to My Library?
Go to the Library tab and tap the + (Add) icon. You have five options for importing a recipe:
- Link: Paste the URL of any food blog or website.
- Paste: Paste the raw text of a recipe.
- Photo: Upload a screenshot or photo.
- AI: Tell our AI what you want to eat, and it will invent a recipe for you!
- Manual: Type it in yourself from scratch.
How Do I Organise My Recipes Into Folders?
In the Library tab, tap the "Organise" button. Tap the recipes you want to move (a checkmark will appear), then tap "Move to Folders" at the bottom of the screen to select their new home. You can also select the Settings (gear) icon when viewing a particular recipe to see which folders the recipe is in and add it to any additional ones. You can also press the + icon within a folder to add recipes directly to it!
Social & Sharing
How Do I Add a Friend?
Go to the Social tab. You can search for your friend by typing their exact 6-digit Friend Code (which they can find in their Settings) or by searching their name. Tap "Add" to send them a friend request. You can remove a friend at any time by clicking on their profile and pressing 'Unfriend', or choosing 'Unfriend' from the menu in the messages tab.
Where Are My Friend Requests?
If someone adds you, a "Friend Requests" banner will appear at the top of your Social tab. You can accept or decline them there. You must accept a request before you can message each other.
How Do I Share a Recipe With Someone?
Open the recipe you want to share, and tap the Share icon (the arrow pointing right). Select the friends or Group Chats you want to send it to, type an optional message, and hit Send. It will drop right into their chat inbox! If you’re already chatting with someone, you can simply choose a recipe to share by pressing the '+' button in the chat and searching for the recipe you would like to share.
How Do I Create a Group Chat?
In the Social tab, tap the Message icon to open your chats. Tap the "+ Group" button, give your group a name (e.g., "Baking Squad"), select the friends you want to include, and hit Create.
Planning & Shopping
How Does the Meal Planner Work?
Open any recipe and tap the Calendar icon to schedule it. Choose the day, the meal type (Breakfast, Lunch, Snack or Dinner), and how many people you are serving. It will automatically scale the ingredients for you! Alternatively, tap the Meal Planner icon, click the + button on the day you want to add the meal for, choose the meal type, and how many people you want it to serve.
Why Are Items Automatically Appearing in My Shopping List?
By default, Compote automatically syncs your Shopping List with your Meal Planner. If you schedule a Pasta recipe for Tuesday, the pasta ingredients will seamlessly combine and appear in your shopping list.
Can I Turn Off the Automatic Shopping List Sync?
Yes. Go to the Shopping tab, open your Settings (the gear icon), and toggle off "Sync List w/ Planner." You can then use the shopping list entirely manually.
What Happens if I Check Off an Item on My Shopping List?
Checked items are crossed out. If you want to permanently clear your list and start fresh, tap the rubbish bin icon to "Clear All." You can also delete items individually by pressing the 'x' button.
Cooking
What Is Cook Mode?
When you are ready to cook, open a recipe and tap "Cook Mode". Our AI will break down the instructions into easy, step-by-step slides so you don't lose your place while your hands are covered in flour, and don’t have to keep scrolling between the ingredients and method steps!
My Screen Keeps Going to Sleep While I'm Cooking!
We've got you covered. Open your Settings and toggle on "Keep Screen Awake." Your phone screen will stay on as long as you are looking at a recipe.
How Do I Use the Timer?
Tap the Timer icon at the top of the screen. You can select a quick preset (5m, 10m, 30m) or type in a custom time. This is a Global Timer, meaning you can leave the recipe, browse your library, or chat with friends, and the timer will stay pinned to the top of your screen!
Premium Subscription
What Is Included in the Premium Subscription?
Premium unlocks the ultimate kitchen workflow: full access to our Smart Meal Planner, automated Shopping Lists, 100 AI Recipe Image generations per month, and up to 100 URL imports per month.
How Much Does Premium Cost?
You can subscribe for £3.99 per month, or save over 15% by choosing the annual plan for £39.99 per year.
What Happens if I Cancel My Premium Subscription?
If you cancel, you will keep your Premium features until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account will revert to the Free tier. You will lose access to the Meal Planner and Grocery List, but all of your saved recipes and folders will remain completely safe and accessible in your Library.
Do My Unused AI Limits Roll Over to the Next Month?
No. Your limits (100 AI Images and 100 URL imports) reset on the first day of your new billing cycle.
Account Deletion
How Do I Delete My Account?
You can easily delete your account directly inside the app. Go to Settings (the gear icon on the top right of your Library), scroll to the bottom, and tap Delete Account. A pop-up will appear for you to confirm the deletion.
What Happens When I Delete My Account?
For your privacy and security, account deletion is absolute and immediate. Your profile, saved recipes, meal plans, uploaded photos, and chat history will be permanently erased from our databases.
Can I Recover My Account After Deleting It?
No. Because we wipe your data completely from our servers to protect your privacy, an account cannot be recovered once it is deleted.
